Lemon balm oil is one of the most expensive and inaccessible oils, but it is well worth the effort to find it. This rarity is obtained through steam distillation, but only from the leaves and tops of the stems, together with the formed inflorescences.

Outwardly, lemon balm oil is not easy to recognize: pale yellow and very fluid, it is in many ways identical to lemon. It is quickly absorbed and has a light, deadpan lemon scent with herbal and fresh notes, a morning undertone, and a cool base. This aroma is very easy to confuse with other oils.

Lemon balm oil has many healing properties and, above all, is known for its ability to positively affect the nervous system and the brain: with a stimulating and calming effect, it relieves colic and dizziness and eliminates tinnitus.

Like all essential oils, lemon balm oil has a rich and complex composition, suffice it to say that many esters, monoterpenes, terpenes, aldehydes, and other substances with high biological activity are present.

In addition, it has an antispasmodic, analgesic, diaphoretic, mild laxative, antiviral, bactericidal, choleretic, carminative, expectorant, antipyretic, and healing effect; and improves the functioning of the stomach and heart.

People have long used the plant as a medicine for painful periods, anemia, insomnia, neuralgia, asthma, shortness of breath, poor digestion, colds, etc. Along with all these properties, lemon balm oil also works as an excellent sedative and expectorant.
